BRUCE CURLETTE PRESENTS GLOBAL MUSIC FROM NYC CONCERT
Tuesday, October 16, 2012 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
On October 16th, clarinetist Bruce Curlette will present global music compositions from his recent performance in New York City. The concert will be held in the Dixon Ministry Center Recital Hall at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Curlette, a professor of music, performed in New York on September 9th as part of the Composer’s Voice contemporary concert series. His performance featured “Fifteen Minutes of Fame,” a collection of 15 one-minute compositions. Curlette selected the compositions from 40 pieces submitted by composers from around the world. These were submitted in response to a call from composers’ organization Vox Novus for scores written expressly for Curlette to perform on clarinet. This was the second time Curlette was invited to perform, and he requested compositions reflecting global music. From the 40 submissions, Curlette chose 15 pieces, which he premiered at the September 9th concert. On October16th, Curlette will be joined by former Montreal Symphony Orchestra principal bassoonist Christopher Weait and Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra harpist Jackie Davis. In addition to the compositions from Curlette’s concert in New York, the program will feature a variety of music that displays cultural influences from around the world.
